Quality Balancing for Parallel Adaptive FEM

چکیده
We present a dynamic distributed load balancing algorithm for parallel, adaptive nite element simulations using preconditioned conjugate gradient solvers based on domain-decomposition. The load balancer is designed to maintain good partition aspect ratios. It can calculate a balancing ow using di erent versions of di usion and a variant of breadth rst search. Elements to be migrated are chosen according to a cost function aiming at the optimization of subdomain shapes. We show how to use information from the second step to guide the rst. Experimental results using Bramble's preconditioner and comparisons to existing state-ot-the-art load balancers show the bene ts of the construction.

Shape-optimized mesh partitioning and load balancing for parallel adaptive FEM
We present a dynamic distributed load balancing algorithm for parallel, adaptive Finite Element simulations in which we use preconditioned Conjugate Gradient solvers based on domain-decomposition. The load balancing is designed to maintain good partition aspect ratio and we show that cut size is not always the appropriate measure in load balancing. Furthermore, we attempt to answer the question...
متن کاملOpen Benchmarks for Load Balancing Heuristics in Parallel Adaptive Finite Element Computations
Load balancing plays an important role in large parallel numerical simulations. To address this problem, some general purpose libraries as well as a number of more specific approaches have been developed, and results on their performance and solution quality have been published. However, the evaluations in most of these publications are based on an application and problem instance combination t...
متن کاملCFD with adaptive FEM on massively parallel systems
An explicit nite element scheme based on a two step Taylor Galerkin algorithm allows the solution of the Euler and Navier Stokes equations for a wide variety of ow problems To obtain useful results for realistic problems one has to use grids with an extremely high density to obtain a good resolution of the interesting parts of a given ow Since these details are often limited to small regions of...
متن کاملFast Finite Element Method Using Multi-Step Mesh Process
This paper introduces a new method for accelerating current sluggish FEM and improving memory demand in FEM problems with high node resolution or bulky structures. Like most of the numerical methods, FEM results to a matrix equation which normally has huge dimension. Breaking the main matrix equation into several smaller size matrices, the solving procedure can be accelerated. For implementing ...
متن کاملDynamic load-balancing of ®nite element applications with the DRAMA library
The DRAMA library, developed within the European Commission funded (ESPRIT) project DRAMA, supports dynamic load-balancing for parallel (message-passing) mesh-based applications. The target applications are those with dynamic and solution-adaptive features. The focus within the DRAMA project was on ®nite element simulation codes for structural mechanics. An introduction to the DRAMA library wil...
